Spring is amazing!!! Yesterday she finished the 32 mile Molokai Challenge World Championships in 5hr and 56mins. She was the only first year paddler in the race. I was able to ride over with the escort boat early on Sunday morning, I'm so glad that I got to go because if I wouldn't have been out in the channel there's no way that I would have been able to comprehend the scale of this race. The swell was monsterous at 10-12 ft with an occasional 15 footer, it was scary in the boat so I couldn't have imagined it on a canoe. These shots are awesome but they don't really capture how big it was. I'll post a video soon. We got to Molokai at about 7am just in time for the 8am start. Spring started out slow but paced herself and focused on surfing as much as possible. The race went great with no major malfunctions except for me barfing a few times. This race was a perfect end to Spring's time in Hawaii and end of her paddling season. There was even a guy at the end of the race waiting with a check to buy her boat so we didn't even have to haul it home. Not a bad week for Spring, she graduated, commissioned and paddle from Molokai. Posted by Picasa
